Out at the park by Coffee Pot Blvd. I noticed these very interesting objects in the water along the sea wall. They look very interesting to me, but was obvious they were not natural. Asking around, I found out they are to help protect the Stone Crab Population. These interesting objects provide shelter from the large fish and maybe humans for the stone crabs.
In most parts of the country its very cold, here in Florida its a little chilly today, but yesterday was fabulous. Most of our flowering plants are still in full bloom. I thought you folks that are snown bound would enjoy a look!
Driving around town today in Saint Petersburg, On the corner of 38th Avenue and 4th Street North, We spied Santa . To our surprise Santa was peddling the local newspaper, The Saint Petersburg Times. This just goes to show you we are not alone in these tough times. Santa was so kind as to take time out from his paper sales to pose for this photograph.
What do you think, is he trying to earn some extra cash to pay his elves? Or the sky rocketing property taxes and home owners Insurance. I would Imagine with a set up like his the taxes must be huge.
To keep a crawling, walking, one year old baby still to get a nice photo. I got loads of butt shots, back of the head, foot and floor. An occasional ear would show up or a runny nose. It doesn't help to have a four year old around to egg the one year old on.. Anyhow this is my grand daughter (she is not aloud to call me grandma, I'm not old enough for that yet) she will call me Nani. We searched hi and low looking for something to call me that would be easy for her to say, and not make me feel old.
A Few different views of our tree with a little help from Photoshop Elements.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree! How are thy leaves so verdant! O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, How are thy leaves so verdant! Not only in the summertime, But even in winter is thy prime. O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, How are thy leaves so verdant! O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, Much pleasure doth thou bring me! O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, Much pleasure doth thou bring me! For every year the Christmas tree, Brings to us all both joy and glee. O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, Much pleasure doth thou bring me! O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, Thy candles shine out brightly! O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, Thy candles shine out brightly! Each bough doth hold its tiny light, That makes each toy to sparkle bright. O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, Thy candles shine out brightly!
I told my hubby John, all I wanted for Christmas was to de-junk the house. Part of that process was that I needed him to build me an entertainment center wall unit, built into the wall. The process would include ripping out these fugly cabinets, that where gray and mauve, that were installed in the house when the house was built. They were non-functional, except to pile every one's junk on.
I am on vacation until after the first of the year, and would love this to be done. Its the only thing I want for Christmas. That was a little white lie, I also want to paint, and I've decide to make my own new curtains.
The children have been patiently waiting for the tree to go up, but that's been on hold until my gift is finished. That will be today, we have to move all the furniture around, organize my new built in wall unit entertainment center. Then Up goes the tree, out come the gifts, and everything will look like Christmas.
Now after the holiday the painting will start, I will only have a week of vacation left and a lot of work ahead. The excitement grows in me daily. The current color is a gray called smoked oyster. The color I want to change it to is called weather sandstone, a more earthy color. The stain chosen for the wall unit is a colonial chestnut and is beautiful, if I say so myself.
We have talked about this before and never did anything about it. But I asked for it for Christmas and he made it happen. He is the greatest person I could ever ask to be with.
Here are a few photos of the progress and process of his wonderful work and my design.
Another rainy humid day here in Saint Petersburg Florida. The sun was out, then it wasn't. Its raining, then it's not. You gotta love Florida weather. Windows open, fans on, a pleasant day. After one of the many rain showers I went outside to sit on the porch, when these lovely rain drops caught my eye. Back inside I went to get the camera, and there I sat trying to get the perfect shot.
The kids were doing their school work, and the littlest one at day care, made for a quite day. I still need to do some Christmas shopping, but haven't a clue what to get. The clock is ticking, Tic Tock, Tick Tock.
In my wait I'll enjoy the cool December Rain..........................
Do you ever get those chain e-mails. I have a few friends and a sister that send them to me all the time. I found this one to be funny. I hope no one takes any offence to it. But it gave me a good laugh. Especially being a mom of a few ungrateful kids (at times).
Santa is not happy with you so you are not getting a damn thing this year!
A Christmas Story
'Twas the night before Christmas--Old Santa was pissed. He cussed out the elves and threw down his list. Miserable little brats, ungrateful little jerks. I have a good mind to scrap the whole works! I've busted my ass for damn near a year, Instead of "Thanks Santa"--what do I hear? The old lady bitches cause I work late at night. The elves want more money--The reindeer all fight. Rudolph got drunk and goosed all the maids. Donner is pregnant and Vixen has AIDS. And just when I thought that things would get better Those assholes from the IRS sent me a letter, They say I owe taxes--if that ain't damn funny Who the hell ever sent Santa Claus any money? And the kids these days--they all are the pits They want the impossible--Those mean little shits I spent a whole year making wagons and sleds Assembling dolls...Their arms, legs and heads I made a ton of yo yo's--No request for them, They want computers and robots...they think - I'm IBM! Flying through the air...dodging the trees Falling down chimneys and skinning my knees I'm quitting this job there's just no enjoyment I'll sit on my fat ass and draw unemployment There's no Christmas this year now you know the reason, I found me a blonde. I'm going SOUTH for the season....
A spooky sky tonight, a huge moon, as bright as can be. Clouds rolling across the sky so fast it makes you dizzy. Couldn't resist to the chance to shoot at the moon. Took about 75 photos and maybe 3 were clear. The clouds would not cooperate and the wind is cold. I could not stand still to get a clear shot for anything.
So here is what I came up with. Spooky, erie, haunting, a perfect moon for a classic werewolf tale.
If Ever I felt a sad moment reading someones blog post it was tonight. One of the blogs I follow did a post about a little girl named Naomi, who was born with some problems and had to have surgery. During this surgery she stopped breathing for 33 minutes and has suffered some brain damage. This is hope for little Naomi, with a special treatment in south Florida. This family is trying to sell their home to raise the monies needed for this treatment. According to Naomi's myspace page the doctors are recommending 40 hours of treatment at a cost of about 3.00 a minute.
I am trying to help spread the word asking people to look at her myspace page read her story and if possible donate some funds to help this beautiful Baby.
Well, I haven't done much of anything the last few days. A little Christmas shopping, a lot of blog reading. So you know I have come across some really interesting blogs. Ebay and website sales are slow so no packaging being done. The weather has not been photo permitting. So after my desk top crashed I don't have many pictures to share. Here are a few shots from playing around.
Seeing the world in black and White on a full time basis would be extremely boring. Seeing your world in black and white photographs is another story all together. I love black and white photos, they have such a nostalgic look and feel about them.
Most of us take the beauty of nature for granted......
Now a person that is color blind does not see in black and white, there are certain colors they can not see. the most common condition is not being able to see reds and greens. Another deficiency is blue/yellow but is rare and there is no test available for this. Total colored blindness is extremely rare and only allows you to see in shades of grays.
I have a challenge for you. Go outside photograph around your house either in B&W or use your picture program to convert to B&W. Do you see the nostalgia of a black and white photo, or do you see a dull lifeless world. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder..
I’m always trying to figure out why I don’t look the same in a photograph as I do in a mirror. I have never liked being the subject in pictures. I am always the one in control of the camera because I’m not very photogenic. As I’ve stated before I have to get pictures ready for Aunt Laurie for Christmas, and that includes some of me. So today I spent several hours searching for the answer and came up with several reasons. The most popular was, we don’t see ourselves in pictures the same as we see ourselves in the mirror.
How on earth do you take a good picture? Naturally, a lot will depends on the photographer, but the model or person in question has some control, too. I’m sure you have noticed that some people - even those not that are un attractive in real life - turn out better in photographs than others. So what the heck is the secret?
There is nothing mystical about it. Photogenic people enjoy having their picture taken, and know how to be relaxed & happy when the camera is exposed. If you have ever noticed they have a natural reaction and will do things to make themselves look better! This is me, if you’re used to having bad pictures taken of yourself, you probably get nervous and shy in front of the camera. The awesome part is that because it’s a skill, it can be learned!
A photograph is a frozen moment in time, a two-dimensional image of you from one angle. The bad thing is that it won’t show all your good attributes like we see them with the human eyes. The best thing is, tricking the camera is easy, by hiding the features you’re not fond of. Listed are some tips to help you take better, nicer, and prettier pictures:
Pile on extra makeup:
The camera tends to ‘swallow’ makeup like crazy, so pile it on and blend well. Putting on a foundation is an absolute necessary, more so now than ever before, in the age of digital cameras that pick up every imperfection. It is recommend wearing mascara and at least a lip gloss or appealing shade of lipstick, even if it’s only a casual shot. Eyeliner would be an awesome addition because it helps define your eyes - without it, features can often get lost. Don’t forget the blush or bronzer - the camera has a tendency to wash the colors out and you don’t want to end up with a dull pancake look on your face.
Pick an outfit you fell good in & practice posing in it:
Don’t just throw something on that you assume will look good; feel and know what looks good by trying on the outfit beforehand and testing the waters. Practice modeling different poses in front of the mirror and decide the dos and don’ts of the outfit. Make note of any problems with the outfit, like a folded hem , unwanted wrinkle or crease etc.
Techniques to slim yourself down:
There are ways to trick the eye of the camera into thinking you’re slimmer or thinner than you really are. This has nothing to do with your actual weight; but something you can do for your advantage in more flattering poses. By the way, most professional models employ these techniques as well. Turn your body 3/4 to the camera. Behold, you just reduced your weight by a third! Shift weight to one foot – make sure it’s the leg that’s furthest away from the camera. Do you have any ‘problem areas’ you’re insecure with (hips, tummy)? Hide them with your hands, props or clothing. Sucking in your tummy! This is the easiest thing to forget when you’re posing, so ask the photographer (or a friend) to kindly remind you during the shoot. Stretching every single bone in your body will instantly make you look taller, slimmer and more confident! When stretching your neck, tilt the chin down a little bit to avoid the up-the-nose shots. Wearing heels will elongate your legs look and force you to carry yourself in a different, more confident way. For full-body shots, tell the photographer to shoot from the belly-button level. That means wherever your belly button is, that’s where the camera should be. This elongates your legs and improves your proportions.
Some Other tricks:
Face towards the light source. Facing away from the light can cause unflattering shadows. Lean ever so slightly towards the camera. Doing so adds interest, dimension and a more natural look to a photo. Use props whenever possible! Anything - a hat, a book, an apple! Having something to focus on and interact with will help you to be more relaxed and make for more interesting pictures. Imagine the photographer is someone you are extremely attracted to! By doing this it will bring out the natural lively flirt in you and light up your face with a smile. Never ever forget getting your picture taken can be a fun and exciting experience. It was much easier when we didn’t have digital cameras, and couldn’t criticize every single picture we took. Never expect every single shot to be a masterpiece - even the best photographers out there usually get a few to a dozen keepers out of 100 images taken. Have fun and don’t be too critical of yourself, and your photos will turn out splendid!
Happy Sunday! We were able to get out of the house this morning, a trip to the 49er Flea Market and then outside to play with Daddy. Everyone around here has had a stomach virus except me, John, and Jack. Last night we had three of them down and out. Jenna was the first to bring it home, I'm sure it was from daycare, and its just gone on from there. I have to admit I don't feel so hot a the moment, but I keep trying to tell myself its all in my head. We also tried to do some Christmas shopping today without much luck. However I was able to sneak in a few shots. Still trying to put together the pictures for Aunt Laurie and time is short.....
This is Miss Jenna (don't let the sweetness fool you).......
